Carriage Museum at Oitbacka Gård

The carriage museum at Oitbacka Gård occupies the loft of a brick cowshed built in 1902 in Kirkkonummi. The collection brings together the estate’s own carriages, gigs, carts and sleighs, along with harnesses and related equipment — all still in use up to the 1950s. The guided tour is a journey back to the estate’s heyday.

The story of the collection

Kartanon vanhoja rekiä ja kärryjä vaunumuseossa

The museum’s collection is the legacy of Consul Feodor Kiseleff. A passionate horse breeder and lover of carriage culture, he gathered carriages from far and wide at a time when Oitbacka was one of Finland’s most renowned horse estates. Between 1893 and 1926, a total of 186 horses were bred here, and from 1899 to 1909 the estate ran a driving school that trained Finnish coachmen and grooms.

Every object in the museum belongs to the estate itself. The carriages, carts and sleighs were part of everyday life and celebration here until the 1950s, after which they rested in the shelter of the cowshed, awaiting a new life. The museum opened to the public in August 2015 during the Kirkkonummi Days.
